BECOMING:  A retreat for Mothers and Daughters, Ages 16-19

We are always becoming---living into the fullness of the person God dreams that we can be.  Yet our world, the pace of life, the usual way of doing things can obscure our possibilities. Late adolescence for a young woman is a time of great transition both for a daughter and her mother.  This retreat provides opportunities to contemplate the many transitions that daughters face growing into adulthood, as well as the challenges moms encounter as they move into a new way of being ‘mom’ for a young adult.  This interactive weekend will include speakers, mother-daughter discussions, group activities, and quiet time, as well sacramental opportunities.

Kathy Martin, MA, Deb Waskowiak and Debbie Sheehan, MA (see June 26-27)

Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to Sunday, 12:00 p.m., includes Mass

Enneagram Spirituality Workshop

The Enneagram is a personality description and the outline of the various spiritual pathways by which people come to God.  One source for this workshop is the work of A.H. Almaas as articulated by Sandra Maetri in her book, The Spiritual Dimension of the Enneagram.  Both newcomers to Enneagram study and experienced persons are welcome.  There will be opportunities for small group interaction along with presentations.
Sister Suzanne Zuercher, OSB, a pioneer in the area of Enneagram spirituality, is eager to share this information, which she has found to be the most profound expression of Enneagram spirituality to date.  She has offered workshops and retreats on spirituality throughout the United States, as well as in Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Germany, and Wales, does executive coaching, and  has authored four Enneagram books, including, Enneagram Spirituality: From Compulsion to Contemplation  and The Enneagram and Prayer (both Ave Maria).

“Rejoice in the Lord Always!” (Philippians 4:4)

Let us explore how such a joyful attitude can grow, which is God’s will for us, in the face of our own difficulties and disappointments, of sickness and natural disasters, of financial crisis, and of our time’s horrors and violence.  A lifestyle of always rejoicing requires a living consciousness of our divine birthright as beloved daughters and sons of Joy Divine.

T’ai Chi Chih®

T’ai Chi Chih® is a series of gentle movements that can be done by anyone.  The movements are a form of meditation.  We pay attention, becoming aware of where our body is loose or tight, with what attitude we are moving, even what motivates the move.  We honor our bodies as gift and instrument.  This retreat is for beginners who are new to TCC and for those who have been introduced to this prayer form. Like other forms of prayer, when doing TCC we all come as beginners. TCC is not something you learn and try to perfect. It is a path that you travel with God.

Rita Otis has a graduate certificate in Spiritual Direction from Creighton University, a Master’s Degree in Education and is a certified teacher of T’ai Chi Chih.  She works as a Commissioned Minister of Spiritual Direction at the Countryside Community Church in Omaha.

Sabbath: Resting in the Goodness of God

“The best prayer is to rest in the goodness of God, knowing that goodness can reach down to our lowest depth of need” (Julian of Norwich).  Sabbath time is time of paying attention to our relationship with God through silence, prayer and worship, of taking pleasure in the beauty of the earth, of visiting with friends or family, of feeding the soul, of listening and resting.  Come and enjoy some time away from the ‘busyness’ of life, the quiet, some creative ways of praying, and resting in the presence of God and one other.
